The world is more connected than ever . The internet and mobile ages have brought with it an unprecedented level of communication and contact between previously far-flung corners of the earth . Today there are more than 7.2 billion mobile connections in an industry which turned over $ 1.13 trillion in 2013 .
More than two billion of these connections come from smartphones , with this set to rise to six billion by 2020 according to global association the GSMA , representative of nearly 800 of the globe ’ s mobile operators .
