The country is therefore facing an ongoing uphill battle , where two-thirds of their population are without electricity . However , this is all set to change . Africa is unmatched in its renewable and sustainable energy sources ( such as solar , hydro , wind and geothermal ), and Mozambique aims to take full advantage . Implementing on-grid and off-grid technologies , the country is working to promote greater access to clean energy services through equitable , efficient , sustainable and culturally sensitive sources of new and renewable energies . Africa ’ s Policy for the Department of New and Renewable Energies 2011-2025 will also support Mozambique ’ s ambitions to meet rising energy demands .
