MILANESE MASTERPLAN
One of the world’ s largest rooftop solar installations? Check. Designed for work and wellbeing? Check. Sustainability-certified and supported by environmentally efficient practices? You get the idea … When it comes to modern office design bingo, Citywave has nailed a full house. As you’ d expect from architects Bjarke Ingels Group.
Serving as the 63,000-square-metre commercial anchor for the final plot of Milan’ s CityLife district, the development rejects the traditional vertical monolith for a horizontal gateway. Two office towers are bound by a monumental, 140-metre-long catenary canopy. Clad with 11,000 square metres of photovoltaic panels, the roof creates a massive urban solar farm generating 1,200 MWh annually while shielding a public plaza below. Pairing clean energy with groundwater thermal systems, it is Italy’ s first structure to sweep Platinum across WiredScore, WELL, and LEED metrics.
