JASON DECAIRES TAYLOR: BIOGRAPHY
Jason deCaires Taylor is a sculptor, professional photographer and environmentalist widely recognised as the pioneer of underwater museums and sculpture parks. In 2006, he gained international recognition with the creation of the world’ s first large-scale underwater art installation off the coast of Grenada in the West Indies. The Malinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park is now listed by National Geographic as one of the Top 25 Wonders of the World and played a significant role in the government’ s decision to designate the site as a national Marine Protected Area.
Over the past two decades, Jason has created more than 1,200 public terrestrial, tidal and fully submerged sculptures worldwide, including major works in Mexico, Australia, Japan, the Maldives, Cyprus, Spain and France, which are now visited by thousands of people each week. The installations, constructed using pH neutral, bioreceptive materials explore contemporary themes of conservation, climate change and environmental activism. They are designed to encourage marine growth, stimulate ecological regeneration and promote environmental awareness.
