We are creating products of desire from materials that respect the planet

Tom Mendenhall CEO Stella McCartney
STELLA MCCARTNEY has been building a different kind of luxury house for more than two decades. Its 2024 Sustainability Statement sets a clear trajectory: net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2040, anchored in science-based targets. The brand’ s near-term goals, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative( SBTi), commit to reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions 75 % and Scope 3 emissions 46.2 % by 2030, all against a 2019 baseline.
These targets are driven by a long-standing commitment to avoid leather, fur and skins, and by a structured strategy covering materials, social compliance, emissions, traceability and biodiversity.
The brand also continues to invest in next-generation materials that reflect its founding principles. Recent products include the Frayme Mylo bag, made using a mycelium-based alternative to leather, regenerative cotton traced through blockchain pilots, and recycled-nylon outerwear designed for take-back and reuse. Stella McCartney’ s sourcing policy sets clear expectations for certified, preferred and regenerative fibres, reflecting a shift from singleissue ethics to entire value-chain responsibility.
CEO Tom Mendenhall frames the strategy in design terms rather than CSR language, saying“ We are creating products of desire from materials that respect the planet.” It is a model that places material innovation and emissions reduction at the core of the brand’ s creative direction.
