LVMH’ s environmental work is structured through LIFE 360, a groupwide framework introduced in 2020 with targets for 2023, 2026 and 2030 across climate, biodiversity, creative circularity and traceability.
Its 2023 disclosures report a 55 % reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared with 2019, achieved through energy-efficiency upgrades and an accelerated shift to renewable electricity, which now accounts for more than 70 % of the group’ s consumption. Scope 3 remains its largest footprint, but LVMH reports a 30 % improvement in emissions intensity per unit of value added since 2019.
Biodiversity is now treated as a strategic priority. LVMH has committed to protecting or restoring five million hectares of habitat by 2030 through regenerative agriculture programmes and partnerships with conservation bodies.
Circularity targets include applying eco-design principles across all Maisons by 2026, expanding repair and care services and increasing the use of recycled and bio-based materials in high-volume categories.
Writing in the group’ s 2021 Social and Environmental Responsibility Report, CEO Bernard Arnault underlined the direction of travel:“ True business success stories are those that stand the test of time and contribute to building a sustainable society. At LVMH, and in our Maisons, this is a long-standing conviction. It is embodied on a daily basis through our products, our commitments and all our actions.”
Internally, environmental indicators now influence maison-level planning and investment decisions, signalling a shift towards managing sustainability with the same discipline as operational performance.
