WORKDAY is one of the largest human capital management platforms in the world, used by more than 11,500 organisations, including more than 65 % of the Fortune 500, according to the company. Workday has spent the past two years rebuilding its platform around Illuminate – an agentic AI layer designed to execute HR and finance processes rather than simply assist with them. More than 4,000 clients are now using at least one Workday-built AI agent, according to the company’ s most recent results, doubling in a single quarter. Aneel Bhusri, Workday’ s Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, returned to the role in February 2026 specifically to lead the company’ s AI strategy.
He says:“ We have to figure out the job architecture for the next decade.” That reframing extends to the labour market itself. Bhusri has argued publicly that AI is displacing tasks and roles rather than the enterprise software that manages them, positioning HR technology as the layer through which that shift gets absorbed.
Workday’ s Illuminate platform now has more than 4,000 clients using at least one AI agent.
