TIONG BAHRU in the morning is one of my favourite parts of Singapore. Go before your first meeting if you can. Have kaya toast, walk the streets, look at the architecture, watch the neighbourhood start the day. You see old Singapore and new Singapore sitting next to each other without much fuss. GARDENS BY THE BAY at night is a cliché, but some clichés exist because they work. The Supertree light show is worth doing once. The BOTANIC GARDENS on a Sunday is the reset button. Bring a book, walk slowly, do not over-plan it. When you spend a lot of time in airports, boardrooms and hotels, a few hours somewhere green makes a bigger difference than it should. EAST COAST PARK by bike is the version of Singapore many visitors miss. You cycle along the sea with cargo ships on the horizon, then stop for food afterwards. It is relaxed, local and completely different from the polished city image people often carry with them. That is what I like about Singapore. It is efficient, ambitious and commercially sharp, but it also rewards you when you get out of the obvious places. For business, it works. For life, it has more texture than people sometimes expect.
