Title: Chief Executive Officer Company: TotalEnergies Industry: Oil & Gas

Diplomacy by tanker is a French tradition and its practitioner is gloriously undiplomatic. Patrick Pouyanné has run TotalEnergies for a decade with a polytechnicien’ s brain and a docker’ s bluntness, building the most coherent transition strategy of any supermajor. The company ranks among the world’ s top LNG traders while assembling gigawatts of solar, wind and storage that rivals dismissed until the returns arrived. He faced down pressure to move the listing to New York and kept the flag in Paris. Pouyanné treats energy as statecraft, which it has become again.
