How would you describe Blue Yonder’ s culture and what have you changed or evolved over time at the business? I truly believe that my team is what makes Blue Yonder exceptional. When I joined, the culture was already excellent. But we had to change from thinking like a point solution company, and we had to get better at working across silos. We created something called Blue Yonder Superpowers, which are a set of actions that form part of performance reviews. If everyone behaves in a certain way, it drives differentiation and becomes a core part of our DNA. This includes having a‘ say-do’ mindset, which is absolutely critical. When we make a commitment, we follow through with quality-first every single time. It shouldn’ t be a differential in this industry, but it is. We also encourage our team members to‘ be curious’. This means, be curious about your customer’ s business and how they work; be curious about new technology; and be curious about different ways of doing things. With this comes an optimism about the role technology can play in benefitting businesses and the planet. Overall, our superpowers describe who we are, how we behave, what our DNA is, and, at the end of the day, they become part of our brand.
What do you look for in senior executive talent and how do you develop the next generation of leaders? I place a heavy emphasis on internal succession planning and developing people into the best in the industry for their specific roles. When mentoring executives, I get them to look at their people. There’ s often not enough focus on developing their own team and succession planning – who’ s ready today, and who are the next two people who are going to be ready in two to three years? How do you get them ready? It’ s about investing in their talent. You want people who are the very best at what they do in that role in the industry.
