THE BRIEFING
RESHAPING DIET CULTURE
Weight-loss drugs like GLP-1 – a drug that mimics the GLP-1 hormone to regulate hunger – have surged in the past few years, reflecting a health-conscious shift in the food and beverage market. According to a Worldpanel by Numertator 2026 survey that analysed 1,000 US households, homes with at least one GLP-1 user spent US $ 560 less on groceries the year after they started taking the drug compared to non-users. Additionally, countries like the UK are seeing a cultural influence, potentially spurred on by shifting diet lifestyles. According to the same survey, the firm found that British shoppers are buying more fresh juice, peaches and prawns and are cutting back on less nutritious purchases of bakery items, chocolate and alcohol.
